a sudden, unpredictable change, as of one's mind or the weather
Explanation
Ever had an urge to change your plans for no particular reason? That could be a caprice, or a sudden, unpredictable change of mood or behavior. A caprice might inspire someone to rearrange their living room on a whim or decide to take a spontaneous weekend trip. It comes from an Italian word meaning "sudden start," suggesting that a caprice can come out of nowhere and leave you feeling a little stirred up.
Example: On a total caprice, she sold her house and bought a sailboat instead.
