Let Your Words Come Full Circle

In honor of National Poetry Month, Dictionary.com is inviting you to play with words!

This year’s Poetry and Lyrics Challenge theme is First and Final Word. The idea is simple: write a short couplet, haiku, or unrhymed free verse where the first and last word are the same. What happens in between is entirely up to you.

There are only two rules:

  1. Your original poem must be between 2 to 5 lines long—all forms of poetry are welcome!
  2. It must start and end with the same word.
The first place winner will receive a $150 gift card and Dictionary.com swag! The deadline to enter is April 17, 2026.
