In honor of National Poetry Month, Dictionary.com is inviting you to play with words!
This year’s Poetry and Lyrics Challenge theme is First and Final Word. The idea is simple: write a short couplet, haiku, or unrhymed free verse where the first and last word are the same. What happens in between is entirely up to you.
There are only two rules:
- Your original poem must be between 2 to 5 lines long—all forms of poetry are welcome!
- It must start and end with the same word.

| The first place winner will receive a $150 gift card and Dictionary.com swag! The deadline to enter is April 17, 2026. |
