With the start of fall, the Halloween season is now upon us! To help you get into the spirit of the season – and help you or your Mighty Girl find the perfect costume – we've pulled together many resources in our Halloween collections. In our newly launched 2017 Halloween Costume Guide, you can find over 400 girl-empowering costumes for both kids and adults. The guide is sortable by age and nine different themes, including fantasy, historical, superheroes, occupations, and animals. Of course, for those Mighty Girls who enjoy the challenge of creating their own costumes, you can find inspiration in the 2,000 incredible photos of Mighty Girls in costume that were sent in last year in our A Mighty Girl's 2016 Halloween Gallery. Of course, the Halloween season would not be complete without some spooky Halloween tales – fortunately, there's no shortage of fantastic seasonal stories starring Mighty Girl characters (human and otherwise)! In our blog post, Witches, Monsters, and Spooky Tales: 35 Mighty Girl Books for Halloween, we've showcased many of our scary and not-so-scary Halloween favorites for young readers. Witch lovers can discover even more books starring witches in our blog post, With Broomstick in Hand: 35 Books Starring Mighty Girl Witches. For tweens and teens, we've also shared a variety of seasonal stories in our blog post, 21 Spooky Mighty Girls Tales for Tweens and Teens. Here's wishing everyone a bewitching Halloween season! | For A Mighty Girl's new book giveaway, we're excited to present I Am Sacagawea, the newest addition to Brad Meltzer's bestselling series, Ordinary People Change the World! This popular picture book biography series introduces children to a variety of remarkable people throughout history in a lively and accessible manner, and this latest book tells the story of a courageous and determined young woman who changed the world while still a teenager. Sacagawea was the only girl and only Native American to join Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery expedition across the uncharted western United States in the early 1800s. She served as an expedition translator, all the while carrying her child on her back for over 2,000 miles and a year and a half by boat, horse, and foot. By the time the expedition reached the Pacific Ocean, Sacagawea proved to the world that she was truly a trailblazer! Like all of the titles in this series, illustrator Chris Eliopoulos's cartoon-styled artwork brings Sacagawea's story to life, while Brad Meltzer's engaging text strikes a wonderful balance between information and inspiration. Thanks to its publisher, Penguin Young Readers, three A Mighty Girl supporters will receive autographed copies of all six titles from the Ordinary People Change the World series focused on Mighty Women throughout history, including books on Sacagawea, Amelia Earhart, Lucille Ball, Rosa Parks, Helen Keller, and Jane Goodall. The giveaway is free to enter and the three winners will be randomly selected. With apologies to our many non-US-based supporters, due to legal restrictions, the giveaway is only open to US residents. The last day to enter is Sunday, October 1. To enter the I Am Sacagawea giveaway, visit our Giveaway Entry Page. | |
